STRESZCZENIE

W artykule autorka przedstawi działania gen. J. Hallera w latach 1940 – 1943 w londyńskim rządzie na uchodźstwie. Haller pełnił wówczas funkcję ministra bez teki, który zarządzał Urzędem Oświaty i Spraw Szkolnych. W tekście zostaną poruszone problemy dotyczące organizacji administracyjnej tej jednostki, przedstawione zostaną sylwetki głównych działaczy oświatowych (M. Jedlicki, F. Lenczowski, Ł. Kurdybacha). W późniejszych latach na uchodźstwie koszty utrzymania placówek oświatowych zwiększały się, co też zostanie wykazane to poprzez analizę budżetu Urzędu Oświaty i Spraw Szkolnych. Autorkascharakteryzuje działalność nowo powstających szkół na uchodźstwie w Wielkiej Brytanii, na Cyprze i Bliskim Wschodzie pod względem ilości uczniów, kadry pedagogicznej, pomocy danej placówce ze strony gen. Józefa Hallera. Głównym materiałem źródłowym  wykorzystanym w referacie są archiwalia Instytutu Polskiego i Muzeum gen. Sikorskiego w Londynie (kwerendę w lipcu 2014 r.) oraz Archiwum Akt Nowych w Warszawie.

General Haller's activities in the structure of the Ministry of Religious Affairs and Public Education in the government-in-exile during World War II

ABSTRACT

This paper examines the activities of General Jozef Haller in the Polish London government-in-exile in Lobdon from 1940 to 1943. At that time Haller was minister without portfolio in charge of the Office of Education and School Affairs. The paper raises issues regarding the administrative organization of the unit, with profiles of the main education activists (M. Jedlicki, F. Lenczowski, L. Kurdybacha). In later years costs of maintaining educational institutions in exile were rising, so the budget of the Office of Education and School Affairs is also examined. The author briefly characterizes the emerging business schools in exile in the UK, Cyprus, and the Middle East, in the terms of the number of students, teaching staff and the way General Haller supported particular establishments. The primary sources of material are the archives of the Polish Institute and Museum of the General Sikorski in London (visited by the author July 2014) and the State Archives in Warsaw.
