STRESZCZENIE
Temat eutanazji i lekarskiej pomocy w samobójstwie istnieje tak długo jak medycyna, jednakże w ostatniej dekadzie wywołuje on szczególne kontrowersje skutkiem legalizacji eutanazji i wspomaganego samobójstwa w kilku krajach Europy oraz obserwowalnej tendencji do liberalizowania zapisów prawnych w tej kwestii. Problem budzi żywe zainteresowanie mediów, staje się zapalnym punktem w dialogu państwo-kościół. Przepisy obowiązujące m.in. w Holandii, Belgii i Luksemburgu, a także projekty ustaw w Polsce, angażują w dyskurs zarówno środowiska medyczne, farmaceutyczne, prawne, teologiczne – jak i szerokie kręgi opinii publicznej.

Legal and moral aspects of euthanasia in the light of Polish legislation
and the social teachings of the Catholic Church
ABSTRACT
The issue of euthanasia and medically assisted suicide is as old as medicine itself. However. over the last decade it has become especially controversial following the decriminalisation of euthanasia or assisted suicide in several European countries and an observable tendency towards the liberalisation of the legal precepts in this area. The issue arouses great media interest and becomes a flashpoint in dialogues between the State and the Roman Catholic Church. The legal regulations, now pertaining, in such countries as Holland, Belgium and Luxemburg to name but three, as well as the draft legislation in Poland, are widely discussed in medical, pharmaceutical, legal and theological circles as well as being openly discussed in public opinion.
